Anne Higgins, adult student. “After Discover Reading, I noticed more desire to understand all words and use a dictionary to discover meaning rather than skipping difficult or unknown words. With my acknowledgement of my reading difficulties, I am more likely to ask for help and admit when I don’t know how to pronounce a word. I am also willing to take time to practice sounding words out before getting frustrated. As an adult student, I was made to feel comfortable in the learning environment. The teachers are all passionately dedicated to providing tools for skill development and growth for their students.”

Hilary, grade 2. “Hilary enjoys reading more than she ever has and takes pride in it now. I am so pleased that she enjoys coming here so much, but now she doesn’t want to go to school! Her confidence in reading aloud has definitely improved. She has loved coming to The Reading Foundation. I think she revels in the one-on-one attention and seems so relaxed and happy when I pick her up.”
-Sarah Scott & Drew Ross, June 2010
Stephan, grade 1. “Stephan is very positive about his experience at The Reading Foundation and appears to be more confident and encouraged to read independently, one night with a flashlight under the bed covers! He feels equipped to try reading and talks about the tools and tricks he has learned. Stephan likes the one-on-one style and the immediate feedback cycle that I observed. These techniques are very powerful at reinforcing the material.”
-Jill & Trevor Munk, June 2010
Samantha, grade 4. “Samantha has started to read voluntarily at home and is correcting her younger sibling’s errors. She seems more comfortable in her role of older sibling, and is better able to ‘instruct’ based on what she’s read and understood. She has really responded well to the one-on-one teaching, as well as the consistency in the teachers and program strategies. The overall ‘team feeling’ at The Reading Foundation is one of fun and family belonging.”

Connor, grade 6. “It takes a lot to have a significant negative change to Connor’s attitude. Connor has the ability to see the bright side most of the time… but we were at a new all time low when we first came to The Reading Foundation. I saw an immediate change in Connor’s attitude and we both knew we came to the right place from the first day. He walks taller and speaks prouder. He is connected to his potential rather than questioning his intelligence. I feel that the ripple effect of The Reading Foundation is still resonating in our lives. Connor is confident and willing to continue building his skills, and just that has made this program worth more than I can say. Thank you for developing a program such as this!”

They willingly changed their program to meet his needs.”
