"This is the first
time my daughter has shown any interest in
reading." |
Once a student completes a program at The Reading
Foundation, the short-term results are extremely
positive. Over the long-term these results
either remain the same or improve. Rarely does a student
show any significant regression and if this occurs,
it can be corrected very quickly. In order to determine
the long-term effects of the remedial programs at
The Reading Foundation, an independent survey
was conducted in November '93, three years
after the clinic had opened. The survey polled all
300 clients who had attended the Calgary clinic from
July 1990 to April 1993. An astonishing ninety-eight
percent (98%) of the clients reported positive and
lasting changes in self-esteem in their children.
Ninety-five percent (95%) of the parents stated that
their child's reading, spelling or comprehension
levels had either remained the same from post-testing
levels or improved from post-testing levels, suggesting
that once the process is set in the right direction,
it creates its own long-term momentum.
While the effect of the programs is nothing short
of miraculous for many students, we don't
want you to think it is a "quick fix"
or a "magic bullet". Students' learning
needs are too complex and often too diverse for that.
However, our clinical experience shows
that immersing students in our programs over the long
run brings results that are not available
from traditional settings or programs.
